• Ajak ngobrol, bukan jualan. Mulanya blog lahir untuk sarana ekspresi diri alias bersifat personal. Pengunjung datang karena ingin tahu misalnya Mas Sumartono sukanya apa, yang biasa dibicarakannya apa. Watak asli blogging ini penting dipahami bagi anda yang mau berbisnis lewat blog. Tak bisa anda serta merta melakukan hard selling lewat blog.
  Yang terbaik menurut saya blog difungsikan untuk soft selling.  Bukan dengan terang-terangan berpromosi. Tapi cukup berjualan secara diam-diam. Buat mereka ketagihan dengan content blog anda. Dan ketika mereka suka, maka akan lebih mudah bagi anda menjual (apapun).
  Lain halnya kalau anda anda langsung membombardir dengan promosi langsung. Seketika pengunjung langsung kabur dari blog anda. Ringkasnya, lakukan soft selling di blog. Untuk hard selling terapkan di situs web/mini site saja.
• Sering memposting yang menarik. Memposting secara rutin itu penting. Memposting hal menarik tak kalah penting. Blog disukai karena sering di-update. Kalau jarang, apa bedanya dengan situs web?
  Mungkin alasannya anda kesulitan mencari ide posting. Apa iya? Coba nikmati tulisan Mas Syahru berjudul Mengajari Seekor Anak Ayam untuk Menari! yang terinspirasi dari nonton National Geographic. Atau tulisan Formula Bisnis Menulis Pangkal Kaya yang diakui Mas Mufli hanya hasil olah otak saja. Gampang kan menulis?
• Tulis yang anda tahu dan sukai. Ini akan membuat anda lebih enjoy blogging. Simak misalnya posting-posting Mbak Lintang Fajar. Postingannya selalu khas bercerita gaya Mbak Lintang. Sekalipun semata karena suka menulis, tanpa niat menjual, tapi saya yakin tulisannya sungguh menjual. Tak menutup kemungkinan nantinya benar-benar akan dibukukan.
  Menulis hal yang anda suka sangat baik. Sebab itu salah satu alasan kenapa kita blogging. Saya yakin asal kita melakukannya secara tekun dan konsisten, orang tak akan ragu mengapresiasi tulisan anda. Karena mereka suka tulisan yang bermanfaat dan inspiratif. Kalau sudah begitu, apa pun yang anda dapatkan berikutnya, hanyalah efek dari rasa suka mereka.

Kuncinya pada konten. Konten yang menghisap akan membuat pengunjung ketagihan. Sehingga begitu mereka sekali saja membaca dan suka, mereka akan berulang-ulang kembali ke blog anda.
